West Ham 0 Burnley 3

A third consecutive heavy defeat, in the Premier League, sees West Ham`s Premier League future come under question.

Furthermore, aside from the game being remembered as one West Ham lost, the crowd disturbances, whereby there were several pitch invasions with the atmosphere inside the ground turning very toxic, will have major ramifications for the club.

But, it could all have been so different.

Before Burnley opened the scoring, in the sixty-sixth minute, through Ashley Barnes, the Hammers should have been leading.

An opening first-half saw Nick Pope, in the Burnley goal, come to his sides rescue making fine saves to deny both Marko Arnautovic and Manuel Lanzini.

The Hammers will also rue the fact that they were denied a penalty when a cross from Aaron Cresswell clearly struck the arm of Aaron Lennon, however the referee, Lee Mason, waved away any appeals.

The second-half saw Burnley up their game and they took the lead midway through the half when Barnes crashed a fierce shot past the recalled Joe Hart in the West Ham goal.

The goal changed the mood inside the stadium and a lone pitch invader became involved in an unsavoury confrontation with Mark Noble.

When play was resumed, matters got worse on the pitch when the Burnley substitute, Chris Wood doubled the lead. Cue more unrest with another supporter deciding it`d be the done thing to uproot the corner flag and try and plant it inside the centre circle.

With West Ham all at sea, a shot from Wood made it 3-0 with the ball swerving to deceive Hart, to give Burnley all three points.

The unrest continued with sections of the support making it so comfortable around the directors` box that first, David Gold and then David Sullivan were forced to leave for their own safety.

The defeat sees West Ham stuck in sixteenth place just three points off a relegation place.

Worrying times for West Ham United Football Club both on and off the pitch.
