Hernandez's Manchester United Uncertainty

Hernandez's Manchester United Uncertainty

Javier Hernandez is hopeful of making his West Ham debut this weekend, ironically enough against former club Manchester United.

First and foremost the summer arrival from Bayern Leverkusen, having enjoyed a successful two year spell in Germany, wants to play at Old Trafford. Should that happen the Mexican is keen to open his account for the Hammers but is undecided if he would celebrate against United.

'I don't know if I will celebrate if I score at Old Trafford,' Hernandez was quoted by Sky Sports. 'It's my old club, my old fans, my old stadium but it'll be my first goal for West Ham. I am not thinking about the celebration, I just want to have the chance to start and get my team the result.'

Adding: 'I am very happy and glad, it's the best way to come back and open at Old Trafford. I am a Hammer, a West Ham player, I want to do even better than I did in Manchester.'

Initially loaned by Man United to Real Madrid, Hernandez, 29, eventually joined the Leverkusen in 2015 with current United boss Jose Mourinho previously admitting he wouldn't have allowed the forward to leave.

Hernandez doesn't hold any regrets about leaving Old Trafford though as he wanted the regular football he wouldn't have got in Manchester.

'I never have regretted leaving Manchester United,' he said. 'I had some great experiences there and it helped me when I did move on.'

Looking ahead to the upcoming campaign, West Ham improvement will most definitely be expected this season with the pressure on Slaven Bilic to deliver after an 11th-placed finish last term, Hernandez has set out his aims.

The arrivals of Marko Arnautovic and Sead Haksabanovic have impressed him but he feels Joe Hart could be the catalyst for a European finish.

Hernandez concluded: 'The European spots are the main goal for us this season. No doubt. Joe Hart is a great lad, a great professional. He always gives 100 per cent on the training ground. He has been in the national team for so long, playing in the Champions League, he is a great goalkeeper.'
