Lowest Attendance Since 2008!

Before last night`s humiliating exit from the Capital One Cup with West Ham being eliminated 9-0 in a semi-final over two legs, I queried just how low the attendance might be considering we were facing a no-hope situation.

As it turned out the attendance, to witness the last rites on an appearance in a domestic cup final at Wembley, was 14,390 which is the lowest turn-out at Upton Park since a mere 10,055 came through the turnstiles for a fixture against Macclesfield back in 2008.

The rows of empty seats, clearly visible to those who took the opportunity to tune into the fixture courtesy of the coverage offered by Sky Sports, were not what was hoped for when the draw for the semi-final fixtures was made shortly after our quarter-final victory.

West Ham did their best to entice supporters in with the 'kids-for-a-quid` initiative but recent home form, allied with the financial aspects of going to every game, plus the fact it was a dead-rubber, was always going to mean the club were fighting something of a lost cause.

I think it might be best to put the whole sorry chapter behind us, don`t you?

All cup games should be 10-15 for STH. Would have stood more chance of filling up the Boleyn on the night.
