More Doom and Gloom!

More Doom and Gloom!

Trying to over-turn a 6-0 first leg deficit, in the Capital One Cup semi-final second leg, against Manchester City was always going to be impossible.

The mega-rich Premier League title chasing outfit just does not concede that money without a bountiful reply.

However, following our recent Premier League form, the opportunity was there, last night, to get at City and get a confidence boosting result, but, as we all know, it wasn`t to be, with City easing into the Capital One Cup Final courtesy of a 9-0 aggregate victory.

Unfortunately, once again, we were the architects of our own downfall with defensive elapses costing is dearly and when you couple that with chances missed, it is always going to be an uphill struggle.

After the match a hugely disappointed Sam Allardyce had this to say to the media about the performance,

"The first goal is so difficult to take. You work at basic defending and then in the first few minutes you let Negredo have a free header at the far post."

"There`s nobody to blame but you defenders."

"We did some good things down the other end we just couldn`t finish. I thought we should have had a penalty in the second half when Ravel Morrison went down."

"But the way things are going for me, I think if Man City punched one of our players in the face in the box, we still wouldn`t get a penalty."

Probably not but, joking aside, we`re in free-fall at the moment and the 2-0 win over, a now bottom of the table Cardiff City, was only a brief respite in what is fast becoming a gloomy season with a nightmare scenario beckoning!
