'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Maiga`s On-Fire!

Getting on the score-sheet in two of his last three games appears to have injected some real confidence into Modibo Maiga.

The Mali international had gone a year without scoring and, at one stage, looked to be heading for the exit door.

However, now there`s the real possibility that the striker could play a part in our Premier League survival and become a Hammers hero.

Speaking about his return to form, Maiga had this to say to the media,

"I am happy and quite relieved."

"I was questioning myself. I was not playing to my level."

"You haven`t seen the real Maiga. I know I have had lots of chances to score, I was probably lacking in confidence."

"It has been difficult because I am not used to playing in this system."

"It really doesn`t suit me. I prefer to play deeper. But I know I am capable of playing well here."

And on the fact that he almost chose to leave Upton Park in the summer but decided to stay, he added,

"The most important thing was to rediscover the pleasure of playing again."

"The supporters have backed me very well. When I hear them sing my name, it is a great feeling. It gives me determination to work harder."

Here`s hoping that Maiga can get on the score-sheet today as we head towards a showdown with Fulham this afternoon.
