More Negatives than Positives!
When things are not going well, and they`re certainly not now, it`s hard to take any positives out of a game.
Yesterday, against Chelsea, poor is too kind a word to describe our display, if I were to be brutally honest, it was a case of men against boys, although we didn`t help ourselves with some schoolboy errors that led to the first goal.
But, playing without a striker and flooding the midfield, is a ploy that might have worked once, against Spurs, but it has never really clicked since.
Sam Allardyce, on the receiving end of a few boos yesterday, was brave enough to try and change things before half-time when he took off Joe Cole and Jack Collison.
Cole, keen to impress against his former club, didn`t take to being taken off too well, shaking hands with one of the coaches before removing his shirt and rushing straight down the tunnel.
Now his actions might, normally, have brought a rebuke from Sam, but this time around Sam`s analysis of the situation brought the following comments in his post-match interview,
"Someone had to come off. We needed a bit more energy and pace. But players only ever think of themselves, I have to think of the bigger picture."
"Next time he gets is chance, it`s up to him to play so well that it makes it impossible for me to substitute him. We are suffering in front of goal and we are suffering with our defensive errors. Our world has been turned upside down."
"We lost four games at home all last season and have lost four already this season. We have lost our fortress and we need it back."
We certainly do and we need to get back on track very soon if this season isn`t to become a relegation dog-fight!
