Petric Puzzle

Watching the re-run of the recent 0-0 draw down at St Marys`, against Southampton, one comment made by the commentary team left me puzzled.

It intimated that, Mladen Petric, our latest signing, a signing done to alleviate the void left up front by the injury to Andy Carroll is some five or six weeks off of full fitness.

Now call me nave if you want but with both Petric and Carlton Cole being out of contract and, presumably, looking to secure a new contract somewhere, wouldn`t you have thought they`d both have done their hardest to keep as fit as they could?

Or were they simply both content to sit looking at what, considering their chosen careers, their healthy bank balances?
