Saturday`s draw, against Queens Park Rangers, was just one of those days.
Any other day we`d have won by a handsome margin, but on Saturday, for some strange reason, it just didn`t happen, despite us having all the possession in the second half.
Joe Cole, who scored his first goal since returning to his spiritual home, summed it up by commenting in the media,
"It`s always nice to score a goal. I`m enjoying my football and feel I`m getting stronger."
"You need to get match hardened. You can do all the training in the world but you need games.
"I feel I`m getting a bit stronger every game and it`s nice to be affecting the game. We were all looking at each other in the dressing room afterwards - 46 crosses into the box?"
"We like to get in the box with Marouane Chamakh and Carlton Cole - if you get 46 crosses in and get those boys playing you`ll have a chance to win games."
On any other day we probably would have won, but that`s the way the game sometimes goes.
And as for Joe receiving the man-of-the-match accolade, it appears the champagne went onto the Queens Park Rangers coach with Joe further commenting,
"I asked somebody to send the champagne over onto the coach for Harry. I`ll always be indebted to him for everything he`s done and it`s just a little gesture so he can have a drink on the way back to Loftus Road."
A magnanimous gesture I`m sure you`ll agree.
But was Joe tempted by a move to join up with the man who did so much to kick-start his career?
Well apparently it was close with Joe admitting,
"It was difficult to turn Harry down - he`s a top man and a great manager, they fought really hard but I felt we really deserved three points. We performed well, but we`ll crack on."
"I think 38 points will be enough this year and we want to get there as soon as possible."
"Let`s focus on the next game at Arsenal - we want to take something from that - then you go from there. We`ve got to stifle Arsenal a little bit and then maybe we can do something."
Arsenal, on Wednesday evening, another challenge we`ll need to rise to get anything from the game. As for 38 points, I`d like to think we`ve set our sights on getting a few more points than that!
