Naturally one manager was buoyant after the match last night whilst the other was severely deflated.
And it doesn`t take a genius to work out which way around it was.
Big Sam, having watched his side capitulate told it exactly as it was after the game, remarking to the media,
"We couldn`t defend a fish supper."
"There were so many changes, but I`m bitterly disappointed by such an embarrassing defeat. Unfortunately, it tells me something about the players I`ve got and it means they can`t come knocking on my door and saying they should be playing after a performance like that."
"I have to bear the brunt of the responsibility because I`m the one who made so many changes."
"But our owners, David Sullivan and David Gold, will be disappointed for the fans because so many took advantage of the board`s discounted prices and we`ve let them down."
It was good of Big Sam to be so honest and telling it exactly as we saw it.
As for Roberto Martinez, his elation showed in the comments he gave to the media,
"To score four goals away from home is a real achievement - especially at West Ham, who have made a solid start in the Premier League."
We`d like to wish Wigan all the best in this competition and hope they go far in it.
