Colchester 1 West Ham 2

Over at the Community Stadium, in Colchester, West Ham earned a pre-season victory against a gallant Colchester outfit.

Aside from an injury to Kevin Nolan, things went pretty much according to plan.

The Hammers took the lead in the 25th minute when Nicky Maynard finished off a move that involved Carlton Cole and Gary O`Neil.

The lead was double din the 30th minute when Maynard raced through and was felled, in the penalty area by Magnus Okuonghae.

Mark Noble duly stepped up and scored from the spot.

But, just before half-time, Colchester got back into the game. An error from O`Neil presented Anthony Wordsworth with a chance and his fine effort beat Juusi Jaaskelainen.

As is often the case in such fixtures, the second half became a precession of substitutions that disrupted the game.

Nevertheless, it was a decent enough work-out as the squad now prepares to depart for their German pre-season tour.
